I am Humbul Kristiawan, 50 years old, live in Jakarta, married and have two kids. I have around 25 (twenty five) years of experience in performing transformation, innovation, change management, strategic consulting, process improvement, governance, risk management, compliance, internal control and internal auditing for various industries.
My undergraduate degree was Economics, majoring in Accounting (SE, Ak.) from Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung and then continued with Master of Business Administration (MBA) from School of Business & Management – Institut Teknologi Bandung. I am a Registered Accountant (Ak., Reg. No. D-20117), Chartered Accountant (CA, No. 11. D20117), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA, No. 49978), Certified Governance Risk Management and Compliance Professional (GRCP, No.85579033), Certified Internal Control Auditor (CICA, No. 14075999) and Certified in Audit Committee Practices (CACP).
I currently serve as member of the Risk Monitoring Committee (Komite Pemantau Risiko) at PT Pegadaian, as member of the Audit Committee (Komite Audit) at PT Bank UOB Indonesia, as member of the Integrated Governance (Komite Tata Kelola Terintegrasi) at Bank bjb and guest lecturer at Universitas Padjadjaran.
My previous professional careers from the last was as follows: as Partner (with role as leader of the Government Sector and State Owned Enterprises) at RSM AAJ – Consulting, as Equity Partner at Deloitte South East Asia – Business & Risk Consulting, as Risk Manager at Citibank NA and as Associate Manager at Ernst & Young – Business & Risk Services.
Since 2014, I have been developing the Innovative Government Institute, an initiative to promote innovation in the public sector and state-owned enterprises in Indonesia. Our activities are as follows:
- Publication of innovation initiatives and programs.
- Consultation and assistance.
- Workshops, training and capacity building.
- Research and surveys.
- Process improvement.
- Advice on public policies and regulations.
As a professional consultant, in general, I have experience in carrying out organizational transformation, innovation, corporate restructuring, change management and improvement by providing the following tasks:
- Assist organizations in managing change to ensure that their people are ready, able and willing to accept and implement change, and see it as an ongoing requirement for future success.
- Development and implementation of the Governance, Risk Management & Compliance
- Development of policies and procedures, assessing whether established procedures and controls are in place and functioning properly, promote value ideas, and design proposed controls and recommendations over business processes.
- Conduct business process mapping and business process risk assessment.
- Transforming financial functions, due diligence and debt restructuring.
- Development and implementation of Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICoFR).
- Conducting corporate governance reviews, internal audits, operational audits, financial audits and investigative audits.
- Reviewing the Compliance and Internal Audit Functions in several organizations to assess their compliance with applicable standards, regulations and leading practice.
- Facilitate seminars, workshops & training in the fields of Transformation, Innovation, Governance, Risk Management, Internal Control, Internal Audit, Fraud & Investigative, and the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
In relation to my duties as a Partner/Executive Director, I was responsible for managing people, pursuing projects, leading tasks to achieve goals and deliver required results. At Deloitte, there were approximately 120 professional consultants in Business and Risk Advisory Services, with various backgrounds, ages, nationalities, skills, expertise, knowledge and experience.
During my tenure in the Citibank Risk Management Division, some of my main responsibilities were:
- Develop policies and procedures related to the Bank’s products and business processes.
- Establish guidelines for the Bank’s products and activities in accordance with regulatory provisions.
- Optimizing the balance of risk & reward in the business and at the same time supporting growth objectives.
- Undertake proper transformation and proper implementation of business policies and controls including proper communication to process owners.
- Optimizing the use of MIS (Management Information System) to monitor business performance according to risk categorization and recommend actions against unprofitable sectors.
- Ensure compliance with Citibank’s Global Consumer Credit and Fraud Risk Policy and all other requirements.

In the Banking and Financial Services Industry, I have been involved in several assignments such as: conducting a business process risk assessment for Bank Rakyat Indonesia and Bank Danamon Indonesia; developing a risk management framework for the Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan (LPS) and Bank Tabungan Negara; assessing the Internal Audit Function of Bank Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Danamon Indonesia, Bank Permata, Bank NISP, Bank DBS and Bank Resona Perdania; preparing the Internal Audit Manual for Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK) – Republik Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia and Bank Danamon Indonesia; preparation of curriculum and competency plan for Internal Auditors at Bank Indonesia; conduct due diligence for Bank OCBC; audit performance blueprints and training for internal auditors of Bank International Indonesia; assisting the preparation of the annual Internal Audit plan of Bank Rakyat Indonesia; conduct a special audit for Bank BDNI (Likuidasi); facilitate training on risk-based internal audit approaches at Bank Indonesia; conduct financial audits on Reksadana Niaga Pendapatan Tetap and Reksadana Niaga Pendapatan Kombinasi; conduct debt restructuring at Bakrie Finance Corporation; conduct a business process risk assessment and prepare an audit manual for Kliring Penjaminan Efek Indonesia (KPEI); and conduct a special review for Badan Penyehatan Perbankan Nasional (BPPN). I also have experiences in conducting Corporate Governance Review at PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk, ICFR/SOX Testing at INDOSAT, Risk Management & Internal Audit Improvement at XL Axiata and Business Process Improvement at Hutchinson 3 Indonesia.
While in Energy & Resources Industry, I led the assignment of Internal Control over Financial Reporting at PT Pertamina (Persero) including its 9 (nine) subsidiaries, namely: PT. Pertamina EP, PT. Pertamina Hulu Energi, PT. Pertamina Drilling Service Indonesia, PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy, PT. Pertamina Gas, PT. Patra Niaga, PT Pertamina EP Cepu, PETRAL, and PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia. Previously, I had completed my role as co-project director in developing and implementing the Enterprise Risk Management System (GRC Oracle Application System) at PT Pertamina (Persero). The project scope was Pertamina Corporate, upstream business, downstream business (refinery units, marketing and trading, shipping, etc.), supply chain, shared services and subsidiaries. In this assignment, I also provided business consulting for system customization to meet client needs and align the system with the Internal Audit Risk Based Planning initiative. I have conducted Business Process Risk Assessment for several companies, such as: PT Pertamina (Persero), Medco Energi Internasional, Exspan Nusantara, Apexindo Pratama Duta, Medco Methanol Bunyu and PT Timah.
I also have experience in conducting corporate governance reviews for PT Aneka Tambang, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia and PETRAL and conducting performance audit for PT PELNI. In the retail business, I have completed work as project director in conducting reviews on several business processes, at PT Metropolitan Retailmart (METRO). The purpose of this project was to identify weaknesses and provide improvements to the processes which consists of merchandising, either through direct purchase and consignment, project, procurement, warehousing, information system and finance & accounting. Other experiences include my involvement in conducting operational audits for HM Sampoerna, VICO Indonesia and UNOCAL Indonesia; conducting investigative audits for CNOOC, J Ray McDermott, Crestec Indonesia, William E. Connors & Associates; conducting due diligence for Riau Prima Energi; and developing the Internal Audit Manual for PT London Sumatra Plantation, Medco Energi Internasional, Exspan Nusantara, Apexindo Pratama Duta, Medco Methanol Bunyu, Kliring Penjaminan Efek Indonesia and Orang Tua Group.

Through all these teaching experiences, as well as other responsibilities, I have developed my interpersonal and communication skills while transferring thoughts and ideas to people (individuals and groups) who come from different backgrounds, cultures and knowledge levels.
